2. Crockett County Museum
For something a little more quaint, why not stop by Crockett County Museum in Ozona? Endearingly nicknamed “The Biggest Little Museum in Texas”, this charming museum boasts three floors of Ozona’s rich history, exploring how the county has developed and evolved since its organizing in 1891. This includes everything from Native American artifacts to a blacksmith shop. Noteworthy exhibits include the yearly Veterans Exhibit and the Mohair Style Show which happens every Fall.
3. Railway Museum of San Angelo
We know you love your Malibu, but if you can fathom another way to get around, the Railway Museum of San Angelo has a lot to offer. Sitting inside a historic railway depot, it tells the story of the San Angelo railroad and its workers, aided by engaging (and costumed) tours. If you’ve taken advantage of the Malibu’s spacious interior and brought along the kids, they’ll love the kid-sized motorized train that runs on the grounds every other weekend.
4. Fort Concho
Fort Concho National Historic Landmark does things a bit differently: it’s an outdoor preservation of a Civil War landmark. Fort Concho was established in 1867 as a means of protecting frontier settlements and their supplies, remaining active until 1889. These days, visitors get in-depth walking tours that are equally educational and entertaining, or can take themselves on a self-guided tour. There’s also plenty of military memorabilia on display that will leave you inspired and awe-struck.
