2020 Chevrolet Sonic

You can choose from three trim levels with the Sonic, namely the no-frills LS, which is available only as a sedan; the LT, which offers some nice extra features; and the top-of-the-range Premier. Both the LT and the Premier are available as a sedan or hatchback. The 2020 Sonic features two new available exterior paint options, namely Cayenne Orange Metallic and Oasis Blue. Other available colors include Cajun Red Tintcoat, Kinetic Blue Metallic, and Nightfall Gray Metallic. Standard exterior features include15-inch steel wheels, automatic on/off headlights, manual mirrors, and LED daytime running lamps. With the LT trim comes added features like 15-inch aluminum wheels, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, and chrome beltline moldings, while the Premier trim boasts 17-inch aluminum wheels.

The Sonic is powered by an energetic Ecotec 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission to produce 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive comes standard across all trims.

With its lightweight chassis and small size, the Sonic provides an agile and nimble ride. Its sharp steering will get you around tight corners with ease, while the standard suspension smooths out most of those imperfections on the road. For a more sporty driving experience, opt for the Performance package that comes with a sport-tuned suspension and a sport exhaust.

Despite its diminutive size, the Sonic offers a surprisingly spacious interior that can seat up to five adults comfortably. In addition, the sedan's trunk space of 14.9 cubic feet is one of the roomiest among sedans in this class. The hatchback offers an even larger trunk area of 19 cubic feet. For those times that you need to haul larger items, fold down the rear seat to discover a maximum cargo space of 47.7 cubic feet. The Sonic's infotainment is easy to use and well-equipped. The standard configuration includes a 7-inch display, a 4G LTE hot spot, Bluetooth, and USB ports. Other standard equipment includes air conditioning, a rear window defogger, floor mats, remote keyless entry, and cloth upholstery. With the LT trim, you'll get cruise control, power windows, upgraded cloth upholstery, a graphite silver metallic instrument cluster, a six-speaker sound system, and SiriusXM. The Premier trim adds many luxuries, including power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless open, a leather-trimmed shift knob, remote start, perforated leatherette seating, and an enhanced driver information center.

Both the 2020 Sonic sedan and hatchback boast a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA). In addition, this subcompact offers standard safety features like a rear-vision camera, tire-pressure monitoring system, and hill start assist. You can also opt for advanced driver-assist features, such as lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and rear parking sensors.
